PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net early on.

However, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
