Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior official commented the incident left him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
